All compensation offers are analyzed individually and take into consideration multiple factors including but not limited to years of experience, certification level, and educational background.

District’s Repair and Maintenance Crew.

• Responds to routine and emergency maintenance activities seven days a week including evenings, weekends, and holidays and is available for 24-hour on-call.
• Ensures the repair and maintenance of the District’s distribution system in an efficient and effective manner.  Systematically repairing leaks, restoring disturbed property after repairs, maintaining, and replacing meter pits, and repair and maintenance of system valves, fire hydrants, and pressure-reducing valves (PRV).

Completes Service Requests as provided by the Business Office within the time frame requested.  Performing general duties associated with the District’s distribution system including but not limited to:

• Establishing new service, terminating water service, inspecting meters, testing meters, making final readings, installing water meters, installing remote meter reading devices, performing minor repairs and maintenance.
• Locating Service of buried Water Utility Infrastructure based upon District records, location tracer wires, and historical information.

Meter Reading

• Record meter readings for residential and commercial customers using meter reading equipment in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
• Troubleshoot and maintain meter reading equipment in a working manner, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs to the Supervisor.
• Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections.  Reports irregularities Supervisor. 
• Report meter locations that are hazardous or difficult to read or maintain (e.g., dangerous meter locations, vicious or dangerous animals, open or broken meter boxes, etc. to Supervisor so that condition can be remedied.
• Replace meter, meter pit assembly, and related appurtenances to correct position and installation and note any irregularities in metered conditions and activities generating service work orders.
• Walking or driving assigned routes reading water meters inside and outside of residential, commercial, industrial, and public properties.

Communicate and interact with customers and the public effectively.

• Respond to customer inquiries in a professional, courteous manner.
• Responds to customer and public inquiries and complaints and refer, when necessary, to other appropriate staff.

Safely operates and maintains the District’s equipment including but not limited to dump truck, service vehicles, backhoe, skid steer, demo saws, compactors, air compressor and trailers.

Maintains effective communication with Business Office and Customer Service Representatives concerning Service Requests, Utility Locates and all other requests for service.

Prepares and submits accurate Time and Material Reports for all construction and repair activity to the Distribution Supervisor.

Performs tasks in a safe and efficient manner.

Conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner.

All other duties as assigned.

 Experience:

• Distribution Tech / Distribution System Operator I – One year of experience in water, construction, or any combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Distribution System Operator II – Two to four years of experience in distribution operations and/or maintenance of water or wastewater utility, or a combination of experience and a Class 1, 2, or 3 Water Distribution System Operator Certification. 
• Distribution System Operator III – Three to six years of experience in distribution operations and/or maintenance of water or wastewater utility, or a combination of experience and a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 Water Distribution System Operator Certification.  

Education:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalency required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to demonstrate proficiencies as outlined in the Distribution Tech / Distribution System Operator I, II, & III Proficiency Description Document.
•  Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with co-workers, government agencies, contractors, and the general public.
• Knowledge of water distribution and quality control processes, distribution systems, water plant facilities, and related regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of distribution installation specifications and generally accepted procedures.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

• Distribution Tech - Ability to obtain a Class 1 Water Distribution System Operator Certification within 90 days of employment. 
• Distribution System Operator I, II, & III – Class 1 Water Distribution System Operator Certification. 
• All Levels require a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Distribution System Operator II & III - Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Preferred Certifications:

• Distribution System Operator II – Class 2 or 3 Water Distribution System Operator Certification.
• Distribution System Operator III – Class 3 or 4 Water Distribution System Operator Certification.

Work Hours:  

• Full-time hours with 8-hour shifts, some projects may require evening and/or weekend work.
• On-Call: Requires 24-hour on-call status for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Overtime: Ability to work over 40 hours a week when necessary.

Drug and Alcohol Testing:

• Random drug and alcohol testing as per the Department of Transportation requirements for all CDL license holders and all employees in safety and security-sensitive positions.

• Continuous physical activities include standing, walking, talking, and hearing.  
• Frequent physical activities include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling.  
• Occasional physical activities include climbing, crawling, finger dexterity, and repetitive motions.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity Requirements

• Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Working Conditions

• Subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • Extreme Heat: temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  • Extreme Cold: temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. 
• Subject to noise: Sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
• Subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or the whole body.
• Subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals.
• Subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
• Subject to conditions that may require a respirator to be worn.
• Subject to close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
